The Talented Work of Holly Merrifield
C. Holly Merrifield is not only a noted wildlife artist for her work with conservation organizations but for other works as well, such as portraits, scenic and architectural rendering. Holly has been a professional wildlife illustrator for over 40 years. Her career began after attending the University of Wyoming. A versatile artist, some of her best known pieces are Scratchboards (a technique rendered with no presketching nor correcting) which she is considered a master of in this difficult medium. Besides the mediums of scratchboard, oil and pastels, Holly has mastered a refreshing style of watercolors with vivid use of colors and uniqueness of execution. Holly's career has brought her much notoriety through being an illustrator for the Colorado Wildlife Federation during the 70's and 80's. She was also resident artist at the Wildlife World Museum as well during that same time period for seven years. She has illustrated for many publications such as Cabella's Sporting Goods Catalog, Biology Digest, National parks and several state wildlife publications the most recent being the state of Montana's Game and Fish Poster for 17 different species of native fish to that state. Throughout her career Holly has been the recipient of numerous awards. Holly has contributed greatly to various conservation organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Safari Club International. Her works have been auctioned off at these conventions in the thousands of dollars. Holly and her husband, Steve Lee owned and operated a traveling fine at tour for 15 years which traveled throughout the west. They also have had two seasonal art galleries in Silverton , Colorado. As of 2002, they have resigned from these ownerships to let Holly concentrate on her new creations of art and help her husband establish a new year around gallery and custom frame shop near their home in Durango, Colorado.
